Arthritis in Spaniels

Many dogs develop Arthritis. It is preventable to a degree and your pet can be treated for arthitis easily

If your dog starts to limp all the time and is overweight then the chances are that he or she may have arthritis. It is not uncommon in middle aged or older dogs as they are just as prone to getting Arthritis as we are .
Your dog has almost the same tissue and muscles in their joints as we have. That means that they are equally capable (or more so) of developing this problem as you or I.

Your dog will suffer just as much pain and discomfort as any human and this is made worse by being overweight.

A heavy dog puts more pressure on his/her joints and gravity does the rest .
The easy way to help your pet is to put it on a diet (and that probably means you will have to cut down on those tit-bits you give him or her) - Definitely NO CHOCOLATE.(But you never gve that anyway do you ?)
.
Arthritis can also be caused by an injury to the dogs limbs when underlying damage causes tearing and stress to the muscles and other tissues that cover the joints.
A jump from a high wall for instance can easily cause tearing of the tissue and leave the bones rubbing against other tissue.

To avoid this painful problem for your dog always give your friend a well balanced diet with all the nutrients need to keep him or her in tip-top condition.
This will ensure rapid recovery from minor ailments and damage and will even lengthen his or her life.

If you do not feed your dog with good quality dog food (and that may well not be the most expensive !) then this will mean their tissue and muscles will get weaker and leave them open to getting inflammation of the joints.
.

You should give your dog a decent amount of exercise daily but also ensure that they have a similar period of rest.

Many of us have dogs that will just kep going all day but this can cause joint strains and injuries and this may lead to the development of arthritis.

Regrettably arthritis can also be caused by tumors or by some diseases and your vet will have to advise you on treatment.

Treatment in time will alleviate the symptoms and anti-inflammatory drugs may be needed.
If you have an older dog then it is also liable to develop arthritis. It is a sad fact but arthritis is one of the problems of old age.
A small amount of activity will help and lessen the pain – but too much activity may worsen it.
With an older dog ,there is no reason why they cannot have a long and happy life with you if you take your vets advice and get proper treatment.
