Dog Agility Training Tips – Get Out

25

www.pamsdogacademy.com http This is a cue that many use in agility to tell the dog to basically take the obstacle that is further away. My border collie Bandit likes to work further away, but many dogs do not. So, take it slow and be patient if you have a "velcro dog". If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. I train all agility using clicker training and just have a blast working with my dogs. www.pamsdogacademy.com

The term get out for my dog means to take the obstacle that is further away from him. Especially if there is an obstacle discrimination with two obstacles in his line of vision. Hope that helps.

Great video. I am just finding time to explore you agility videos. Question: Is the cue “Get out” used to help the dog move to align with the center of the jump? Especially if you are coming from the side areas?

Work on: Recall’s in many environments away from many things. Reinforce your dog 4 being w/ you, so after a jump REWARD, after a jump and a hoop REWARD, reward a lot and vary up the times you reward. This will keep your dog with you and keep him motivated. If you try to go too long without reinforcement the dog will find something else that is reinforcing. I think that running around having his own fun is pretty exciting and reinforcing. Send me a msg if you need more help. good luck! Pam

My dog will suddenly give up on a course and bolt around, ignoring everything i say. If im outside, it’s hopeless trying to do a course offleash. Can you help me?

Well done progression. This will be very helpful for my Terrier pup. With several years inbetween dogs I always forget just how I trained distance.

Zander and I did an entry level(Puppy) agility class before, but I was looking to go back into it with him in the new year, so every bit of advice helps! Thanks. :) 5*s!

My dogs do not have training Agility. Someday I’ll try and apply their techniques. Great video! 5 *

Well, I take classes with Isabelle for fun, but Bandit is faster than she is so I take privates with him. I have been doing agility now for 2+years. I was even teaching at the Agility Club of San Diego, but I did not totally approve of all their methods. So, I mainly train on my own, but I like classes because I always learn something new from a different instructor. :) I love to learn, especially when it comes to dog stuff. HEHE!

Another 5* for Pam and Bandit! Did you take an agility class or teach him all on your own?

You too!
I’ve trained “get out” before as “Go on” with my 7 month old, but this gave me ways to keep up with it.
